A man riding an electric scooter died days after being involved in a crash with a car on Stirling Road in Florida, authorities said.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, when Gregory Ornstein-Bowers, 39, was driving a 2024 Hyundai Tucson westbound in the center lane. James Small, 60, was riding his scooter southbound across Stirling Road when the vehicle struck him.
Ornstein-Bowers acknowledged to detectives that he did not see Small until it was too late and swerved in an attempt to avoid the crash. The hit caused Small to be thrown from his scooter and land in the center lane.
“Ornstein-Bowers told detectives that he did not see the scooter rider until he was in front of him and attempted to swerve to avoid a crash,” A BSO news release said.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and transported Small to Memorial Regional Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Dec. 25.
