Broward pet owners have been warned by the Humane Society of Broward County about a scam targeting those with missing pets. Scammers have been contacting pet owners through online platforms, claiming their animals were injured and being treated at the shelter, while demanding payment for non-existent treatments. The scam has led to at least one pet owner losing money after discovering their pet was never at the shelter, as per the Humane Society of Broward County release.

The scammers have tricked pet owners into sending up to $1,000 via digital payment services, convincing them their pets were in urgent need of medical care, as reported by WSVN. In one case, two people lost significant amounts of money due to the scam.
