Two years after epic rainfall, lawsuits accuse companies of negligence in Fort Lauderdale

Some blame Mother Nature for the epic rainstorm that flooded Fort Lauderdale two years ago.

But several residents in River Oaks and Edgewood, two neighborhoods hardest hit by the massive deluge, argue someone else is to blame: The contractors and engineering firms hired by Fort Lauderdale to oversee millions in drainage upgrades to both neighborhoods.

The upgrades required the removal of existing stormwater drainage systems, but the contractors failed to provide temporary solutions to protect against flooding, according to two separate lawsuits, one for each neighborhood…
