A blind Florida man was rescued from drowning after falling into a canal earlier this month, and the police officers who saved him were recognized this week with certificates of merit.
The Hialeah Police Department said officers responded to a report of a man seen falling face-first into a road then stumbling into a canal in the area of West 5th Avenue and West 26th Street shortly after 9 p.m. on May 2. Sgt. Richard Aguero and Officer Kevin Coloma arrived to find the 65-year-old man, who is legally blind, floating face-down in the canal.
