Mosquito Control Operations Set to Launch in Lauderhill, Plantation, and Sunrise to Prevent Vector-Borne Diseases

Residents in parts of Lauderhill, Plantation, and Sunrise can expect to hear the hum of trucks in the nighttime hours this upcoming week, as the Public Works’ Mosquito Control Section plans to spray larvicide to curb the spread of vector-borne diseases. Between June 9 and June 13, barring delays due to weather or other unforeseen conditions, operations will run from 10 PM to 6 AM, targeting the larvae of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes – these pests are known carriers of ailments like dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya, as announced by Broward County.

The fight against these tiny yet dangerous insects involves the use of VectoBac WDG, a larvicide unthreatening to humans, pets, bees, aquatic environments, and environmentally sensitive areas, and it’s been given the green light from institutions as stringent as the Organic Materials Review Institute and the US Environmental Protection Agency and even listed by the World Health Organization as a trustworthy method for mosquito larval control.

In an ongoing effort to reduce the local mosquito populace and the risk of diseases, Broward County Mosquito Control Section is collaborating with the Florida Department of Health and local Code Enforcement, and they’re urging residents, business owners to take a proactive role in eliminating potential breeding spots like buckets, planters, and birdbaths by ensuring they don’t hold water where mosquitoes could lay eggs, as detailed by the county’s news release…
