Airport thieves grounded before takeoff with bags of stolen luxury goods

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — One suspect made a run for it, dropping bags stuffed with designer perfume and sneakers as deputies closed in, but none of the three alleged airport thieves made it back to Baltimore.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said its deputies arrested Javon Darrell Staten, 34, of Georgia; William Arthur Manning, 53, of West Park; and Rachael Manning, 37, of Maryland, after the trio allegedly looted duty-free shops at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Saturday.

The suspects flew into Fort Lauderdale from Baltimore that morning and returned to the airport in the evening, attempting to board a flight home with stolen merchandise, according to the news release. Deputies spotted them and moved in. Staten tried to flee, shedding stolen goods along the way, but was quickly caught.

All three now face grand theft and fraud. Staten also faces charges of resisting an officer without violence and violating probation…
