WASHINGTON (CBS 12) — Federal agencies filed civil denaturalization complaints against a former North Miami on Friday mayor, alleging he entered the U.S. illegally.
The complaint was filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida on Friday, with prosecutors alleging the Haiti native, Phillipe Biene-Amie, also known as Jean Philippe Janvier, used two identities to secure immigration benefits and ultimately become a citizen.
According to the DOJ, Biene-Amie entered the United States using a fraudulent “photo-switched” passport under the name Jean Philippe Janvier and was ordered removed in 2001. He withdrew an appeal of that order, claiming he had returned to Haiti, but instead remained in the country and adopted a new name and birth date…
