Longest bon dance in Hawaii kicks off summer celebrations

HONOLULU (KHON2) – The 36th Annual Obon Celebration is happening Saturday, June 6, with food booths opening at 3:30 p.m.

This is Hawaii’s longest bon dance and the only one featuring 10 different bon dance groups from Oahu. Participants can also enjoy pop-up crafts and plant sales, and a lantern floating ceremony in partnership with Waipahu Soto Zen Temple Taiyoji.

Limited handicap parking is available on site. But public parking is available at Hawaii Tech Academy and Waipahu Elementary School. There will be a free shuttle service to and from the event site…
