HART to begin tough construction stretch as ridership brings hope for future

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is holding a community meeting Wednesday night to go over construction coming to Halekauwila Street in Kakaako as part of segment 3 of Skyline.

“We’re making some good progress, HART Director and CEO Lori Kahikina said of the construction efforts. “The utility on downtown Honolulu is pretty much pau, and the utilities on Dillingham should be wrapping up by the end of this year. But we already have Tutor Perini, the follow-on contractor, starting to build shafts and columns, and then you’ll start to see the guideway leave about beginning of next year.”

Kahikina said the Halekauwila area will be one of the most difficult segments of construction in segment 3, which could hurt businesses in the area…
