Subway in Kunia ordered to close after health inspection finds refrigeration violations

KUNIA, Hawaii (Island News) — The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) has ordered a Subway restaurant in Kunia to close on Friday after inspectors found multiple refrigeration units were not keeping food at safe temperatures.

Subway Kunia, located at 94-535 Kupuohi St. in Waipahu, received a red placard on Friday, July 17, following a routine inspection. The establishment, operated by World Subs Inc., must remain closed until the DOH confirms all critical violations have been corrected.

Inspectors found all four refrigeration units at the restaurant, including the walk-in refrigerator, were operating above the required temperature for foods requiring Time/Temperature Control for Safety.

Refrigeration units must be capable of maintaining food at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below before the restaurant can reopen, DOH reported…
