Tropical Storm Moke forms, heavy rain possible for Hawai’i

HONOLULU (Island News) — Tropical Storm Moke has formed in the Central Pacific and could bring heavy rain, gusty winds and dangerous surf to parts of Hawaiʻi this weekend and early next week.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, Moke was about 660 miles southeast of Hilo. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and is moving west-northwest at 9 mph.

Forecasters expect Moke to gradually strengthen over the next day or two. The current forecast track takes the center of the storm south of the Big Island this weekend before passing south of the smaller Hawaiian Islands early next week…
