On Monday, the ferry was “hard aground” with the hull still intact. It was also reported that no sheen was detected in surrounding waters, however the vessel has a capacity of 250-gallons of diesel fuel.

A recent update from the U.S. Coast Guard said both the vessel’s props were damaged.

They also said there were no signs of leaking fuel or oil and were monitoring the ferry for any pollution threats.

The DLNR shared that all the fuel was removed from the vessel on Tuesday.

The ferry owner made arrangements for salvaging the vessel, but weather has delayed the event until Thursday.

A salvage company will be removing and towing the ferry to Honolulu for repairs.
