This moon is named Wolf because wolves were heard more often at this time of year in many cultures. It’s a time of deep winter when snow blankets much of the land in areas that experience deep winters. It is emblematic of the loneliness and isolation that often comes with being snowed in.

February is the Snow Moon

Appears Feb. 24.

The moon name reflects the typically heavy snowfall of that occurs in February. This moon is also sometimes called the Hunger Moon since in ice climates there is more difficulty with hunting expeditions.

March is the Worm Moon
