Community concerns over chemical attack of woman

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Police Department is searching for a man accused of dousing a 25-year-old woman with a chemical substance that caused severe burns to her body, police said another person may have a connection to the suspect as they handed him a bicycle after the attack.

HPD said the suspect was last seen on a bicycle getting away on Kapiolani Boulevard headed toward the convention center.

Ala Moana resident Nikie Cooper cannot believe the incident happened near the gym she attends.

“I would never guess of somebody even doing something like that in this area,” Cooper said.

“You know, there’s Target right now it’s a whole mall.”

The surveillance video shows the suspect walking in front of an Ala Moana retail store on Tuesday after 9 pm. He is seen wearing a black hooded jacket, camouflage pants and a white face mask.

The man is believed to be in his 20s, about 5’8” tall, and weighs between 160 and 180 pounds.

Police said another individual gave the suspect a bicycle on Kapiolani Boulevard, he was last seen riding a bike headed towards the Hawaii Convention Center.
