The event was free to kamaaina, military personnel, and Mighty Mo members. Those who were in attendance were able to experience live music, oral history, reenactments, displays and more.
Today’s event celebrated two anniversaries for the memorial. The first being its launch into service 80 years ago, and the second being open to the public as a historic attraction 25 years ago.
“Living History Day is a day to celebrate the USS Missouri and her place in history, but it is also a day where we honor all the men and women who have fought for America’s freedoms,” said president and CEO of the USS Missouri Memorial Association Michael Carr.
The USS Missouri was in commission for five decades and participated in three wars: World War II, the Korean War, and Desert Storm, before being donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association.
