Modern surfing legend and Punahou alumna Carissa Moore announced on Jan. 19 that she would be stepping away from the World Surfing League Championship Tour following the upcoming Lexus Pipe Pro at the Banzai Pipeline in the North Shore.
The surfing window for the Pipe Pro opens on Monday, signaling the start of what Moore called an “evolution” in her life, “the start of the next chapter, a new beginning.”

Following the Pipe Pro, Moore will still aim to defend her Olympic title at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
But for now, Moore remains present as she prepares to close things out on the Tour in front of her family and friends.
“I’m really excited to surf at home and in front of all of my family and friends,” Moore told KHON2 sports director Rob DeMello. “I couldn’t imagine a more fitting place to kind of have my final event. I really wanted to share with everybody that’s been involved my community, the fans, my family, my friends, my sponsors, my tour family.
