HONOLULU (KHON2) — The man connected to a horrific attack that critically injured a 25-year-old teacher appeared in court on Monday, Jan. 29.

Court documents identified Sebastian Mahkwan, 29, as the suspect. He was charged on Saturday, Jan. 27 with attempted murder in the second degree.
Mahkwan is accused of throwing some type of chemical at the language teacher near an Ala Moana area gym Tuesday night, Jan. 23.
Court documents said the attack caused the victim’s skin and clothes to burn.
In addition to burns found on a large portion of her body, the documents detailed that the victim’s throat and lungs were collapsing after the chemical had gotten into her mouth.
Doctors noted that the injuries will have permanent disfigurement.
So far, the investigation has determined the incident was a random act.
Mahkwan remains in custody on $2 million bail.
