HONOLULU (KHON2) — Increased activity is happening at the Kilauea volcano and if it were to ever erupt you can capture the moment yourself.
The United States Geological Survey has webcams located in 200 areas of the U.S. to monitor real-time conditions during natural hazard events.
Various webcams have been set up around Kilauea at its summit, east rift zone and lower east rift zone.
On Wednesday morning, Jan. 31, the volcano is seeing most of the increased activity at its Halemaumau crater.
The majority of the eruptions over the past years have been at this crater floor with its most recent one happening on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023. Crowds from around the world came to the Big Island to witness the glowing lava pond at the Halemaumau crater.
See if you can be one of the first viewers to spot the next explosion by monitoring Kilauea on the USGS YouTube livestream.
The livestream has so far piqued the interest of an average of 270 to 300 viewers early Wednesday morning.
