Chinatown preps to ring in the Year of the Dragon

HONOLULU (KHON2) — It’s time to ring in the Year of the Dragon with some all-day fun in Chinatown.

On Saturday, Feb. 2, lots of festivities will be underway in Chinatown with the Lunar New Year Parade and the Night in Chinatown Festival.

The Night in Chinatown Festival will include loads of activities for you and your ohana. There will be a Lunar New Year arts and crafts, free bouncy houses, food tricks and live entertainment.

And what’s a Lunar New Year without lion dancing! A variety of groups will be bringing good luck to the streets of Chinatown with lion dance performances and martial arts demonstrations.

The following performers will be there:

  • Gee Yung Chinese Martial Arts Dragon & Lion Dance Sports Association
  • Chinese Lion Dance Association
  • Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association
  • Sing Yung Dragon & Lion Dance Association
  • Hawaii Lion Dance Association
  • Kuo Min Tang Physical Culture Association
  • As well as a special appearance by a 150-foot dragon.

As for the Lunar New Year Parade, that will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at the Hawaii State Capitol lawn. Parade participants will make their way down Hotel Street to the Honolulu Chinatown district.
