HONOLULU (KHON2) — Chinese New Year festivities are underway, from the Lunar New Year parade to events in Chinatown, there’s no shortage of celebrations for the year of the dragon.

The Lunar New Year parade took over the streets from the state capitol to Chinatown Saturday morning.
Participants showed up in their best Chinese New Year outfits, from lion dancing groups to special appearances by festival queens, kung fu martial artists, elected officials and of course, lots of dragons.
A weekend of activities kicked off over at the Chinese Cultural Plaza.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Chinese New Year celebration with food trucks, activities, cultural booths and live entertainment, including performances by the 2024 Narcissus queen and court.
Vendors told KHON2 that the year of the dragon is already bringing them good luck.
“The Chinese zodiac charms, the statues are selling like hot cakes and the pandas are flying off the shelf,” said Sara Chen at the Flower Fair. “Everyone is getting excited and getting into the mood for the year, so it’s a fun thing to have.”
