It’s been almost eight years since Ed and Paula Werner lost their son.

“He passed away in my arms. It was the most devastating thing that ever happened in my life,” said Ed who had found his son, Kaulana, at the scene of a hit-and-run.

Kaulana was 19 years old at the time, yet still Ed and Paula’s baby boy. He was killed by a drunk driver.

“We were never the same, but yet I still want to bring awareness out there and educate the next generation,” said Ed.

To prevent more deaths like Kaulana’s, community leaders came together for an islandwide mural project to bring awareness about the dangers of impaired driving through art.
