Fire rips through structure on Molokai, displacing kupuna

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Maui Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that burned down a single-family dwelling on Molokai Tuesday morning, Feb. 6.

Flames broke out just before 3:35 a.m. on Puupeelua Avenue in Hoolehua.

When crews arrived, they found the dwelling fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately worked to control the blaze and limit the spread of the fire to the main building in the area.

While firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, they said the structure was at a total loss.

A 77-year-old woman was displaced but she was not injured.

The cost of damage is being determined.
