The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Education (COE) has granted full tuition remission to its student teachers and interns for spring 2024. This was made possible by a $1.5 million fund from Good Jobs Hawaiʻi, which will benefit over 200 students and interns. Aaron Levine, a coordinator at COE, expressed appreciation for the support, stating that it will help sustain Hawaiʻi’s educator workforce.

The tuition funds will be refunded to those who have already paid their spring tuition by the end of February 2024. Eligibility for the remission included being a Hawaiʻi resident, U.S. citizen (or permanent resident or COFA status), being 16 years or older, and having a high school diploma or equivalent. Students could receive the tuition remission even if they had already received other funds.

Good Jobs Hawaiʻi, the funding organization, is a partnership between the UH Community Colleges, employers, and organizations. They aim to help Hawaiʻi residents secure quality jobs and offer free skills training in sectors such as healthcare, technology, clean energy/skilled trades, and creative industries.
