HONOLULU (KHON2) — People living a healthy lifestyle is Hawaii is not an uncommon thing. And it’s only been the last couple of decades that places like Vitamin Shoppe and GNC opened locations in the islands.
But before big business moved in, there was a tiny shop in Waikiki on Kapahulu Avenue that catered to surfers and anyone else who wanted a hearty yet healthy meal. That place is Vim & Vigor Healthy Living, and it’s been around for nearly 60 years.
It’s located in Ala Moana Center now, but the shop continues to offer locals some of the more obscure as well as the popular health foods and supplements that are in hot demand.
KHON2.com was able to catch up the daughters of the original owner of Honolulu’s Vim & Vigor, Fudge Kozuki and Sherrie Rodi.
“All of us kids have taken turns running the shop,” said Rodi. “Now, it’s our little sis’s turn.”
Kozuki is the youngest of six children, and she is in the throes of ensuring Vim & Vigor can compete with the large corporate businesses that are their competition.
