Overnight crash claims the life of 34-year-old man

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Oahu experienced their third traffic fatality of the year after a man was killed during a late night motor vehicle collision in McCully.

The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday on the intersection of Kapiolani Blvd. and Waiaka Road.

HPD and the Vehicular Homicide Section of the Traffic Division received reports that a 17-year-old driver with three passengers struck the 34-year-old male as he driving a Surron electric vehicle.

The 24-year-old man was said to be making a left turn from Waiaka Road against an illuminated red signal, when the 17-year-old driver who was travelling westbound on Kapiolani Blvd. struck him.

The Surron motorist, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was ejected onto the highway.

All five individuals involved in the crash were transported by emergency medical services to an area hospital. The Surron motorist was is critical condition, while the other driver and his passengers were in good condition.
