A fatal car accident took place on February 10, 2024, around 10:30 PM at the Kapiolani Boulevard and Waiaka Road Street intersection in McCully. The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division was alerted. A 17-year-old driver and his three passengers were involved, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old man.
The deceased was driving a Surron electric vehicle when the teenager’s car hit him while making a left turn against a red light. The collision ejected the 34-year-old onto the road, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The teenager and his passengers were also hospitalized but were reported to be stable. The 34-year-old was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Initial investigations indicate that speed, drugs, and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
On February 11, 2024, around 1:55 AM, the Traffic Division reported the 34-year-old man had died from his injuries. This marks Oahu’s third traffic fatality in 2024, compared to five at the same time in 2023.
