The 25-year-old New York surfer was pulled out of the ocean by members of the surf community and was further assisted by off-duty lifeguards and Ocean Safety lieutenants.

After several cycles of CPR, the man was finally able to regain a pulse before he was left in the hands of Honolulu EMS and HFD.

EMS provided advanced life-saving treatment to the surfer before transporting him to an area emergency room.

In a recent update, the man was “held underwater by the brute force of two waves on whitewater, which filled his lungs with seawater.”

The poor weather conditions have brought heavy rains, high wind and especially strong surf. Some Oahu beaches were closed for a few days due to the poor weather.

Over the past couple of weeks, lifeguards and Honolulu Ocean Safety kept busy preventing thousands of people from putting themselves in life-threatening situations.
