HONOLULU (KHON2) — For most of the week, the state will be seeing the impacts of a cold front passing through and high surf rolling in.

Cold front and rain
Maui County was getting showers from the cold front Thursday morning, but they should gradually clear out after it passes later this morning/afternoon.
Hawaii County will see some showers from the cold front Thursday night into Friday. Most of the rain will be beneficial, especially over leeward areas.
High surf
By Thursday afternoon north north-facing shores will have surf heights of 35’ to 45’ and 18’ to 22’ on the west-facing shores. These are twice the levels of warning-level criteria. These are dangerous waters even for those who know a lot about Hawaii waters. The heights will go down to 25 ft to 35 ft Friday, but that is still within the warning level.
High winds
From Thursday into the weekend, winds will be high out of the northeast with speeds of 20-30mph with gusts possibly over 40mph. Downed tree branches and debris on roads is certainly possible along with possible downed trees and/or power lines. These northeast trade winds will weaken a little early next week so be on alert about the high winds for the next several days.
