Bottles4College founder earns national award

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Hawaii teen’s charitable efforts have garnered national attention and financial support to further his innovative project.

Genshu Price, recognized for his commitment to community improvement, has been named a 2024 Prudential Emerging Visionary, receiving $5,000 to advance his work.

Price is the founder of the “Bottles4College” program, an initiative that collects and recycles bottles and cans to raise money for scholarships for Hawaii students. The 16-year-old from Hauula has not only made a significant environmental impact but also provided financial aid to students in need.

As part of his recognition, Price has been invited to New Jersey to participate in a pitch competition at Prudential’s headquarters, where he could win an additional $5,000 or $10,000 in funding.

According to Prudential, he will be coached by Prudential employees and have the chance to meet other young leaders. Prudential Emerging Visionaries recognizes young people ages 14-18 whose fresh perspectives and innovative solutions address pressing financial and societal challenges in their communities.
