Cool northerly winds brings back sweater weather

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Breezy to windy NNE trades are prevailing over the island chain, with gusts in the 25 to 35 kt range over some of the most exposed/typically windier locations.

Meanwhile, very dry and stable conditions are present over the smaller islands, with nearly all locations west of the Big Island receiving no rainfall since 8am this morning.

Some moisture continues to linger near the eastern end of the state this afternoon, however, which is resulting in broken to overcast low clouds and scattered showers over windward Big Island.

Breezy to windy conditions will continue through the rest of the weekend and into early next week as the high pressure builds into the region and moves eastward, north of the islands.

Additionally, dewpoints in the 40s and 50s will make it feel rather cool and chilly despite the overall lack of trade wind showers, especially across the smaller islands.

Meanwhile, strong westerlies aloft will continue to produce advisory-level winds at the summits of the Big Island, so the wind advisory has been extended through tonight with this afternoon’s updates.
