No. 1 Hawaii outlasted by No. 2 Long Beach State in five sets

The No. 1 University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team was outlasted 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13 at No. 2 Long Beach State on Saturday.

Hawaii exits the weekend 17-3 overall and 0-2 in Big West Conference play, while Long Beach State improved to 18-1 overall and 4-0 in conference matches.

After The Beach swept the ‘Bows on Friday, Hawaii took the second and fourth set over LBSU.

Sotiris Siapanis had a team-high 17 kills and 11 digs to get a double-double for Long Beach State, racking up four blocks in the process.

For Hawaii, Keoni Thiim had a match-high 20 kills with seven digs, four assists and a block, but also had 10 attack errors.

True freshman Louis Sakanoko had 19 kills, nine digs and three blocks, while Alaka’i Todd added 16 kills, three digs and three blocks.

Tread Rosenthal dished out a match-high 57 assists with 15 digs and two blocks. For Long Beach State, Aidan Knipe had 39 assists, 11 digs and four blocks.
