Hauula teen wins Gloria Barron prize for recycling initiative

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A teen from Hauula is making headlines with his creative approach to recycling and education.

Genshu Price has been named a winner of the 2024 Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, recognizing his dedication to environmental protection and support for higher education in Hawaii.

Genshu founded “Bottles 4 College,” a nonprofit organization that not only helps reduce waste in Hawaii’s landfills but also funds college scholarships for local students.

In just three years, “Bottles 4 College” has recycled nearly 2 million cans and bottles, raising almost $22,000 to assist Hawaii high school seniors—funds generated one nickel at a time.
