Woman struck, killed while walking across H1 freeway

WAIPAHU, Hawaii (KHON2) — A woman died in a pedestrian versus car accident on the H-1 freeway in the Waipahu area on Sunday, Dec. 22.

The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section received the report around 8:50 p.m.

Man killed in pick-up truck vs motorcycle crash

According to police, a 27-year-old male was traveling westbound on the H-1 where he struck a 31-year-old female who was walking through the traffic lanes.

After the crash, the man remained at the scene uninjured.

The woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash resulted in road closures for lanes one through three on the freeway, leaving only one lane and the shoulder open.

HPD said this is the 51st traffic fatality of 2024, compared to 54 at the same time last year.

An investigation remains ongoing.
