Ross stores located on Fort Street Mall and Ke’eaumoku Street are closing its doors on Friday.
“I was shocked. I did not know they’re going to close. I work close by so I come here often,” stated Lolita, a worker in the Ke’eaumoku area. “They have everything. It’s very convenient to go shopping.”
Retail Merchants of Hawaii (RMH) stated nationwide brands are looking to consolidate.
“They look at things like performance of the store,” said Tina Yamaki, RMH President. “Is there shoplifting? There’s a lot of factors on why stores close. It’s not just economic.”
Residents said some Ross employees have been transferred to different locations.
“My sister works here. They already transferred her to Ala Moana,” stated Lani, a Downtown area worker. “There were four of them who transferred to Ala Moana and then I guess the rest, they went to Nimitz.”
