Honolulu Fire Department Continues Relentless Search for Missing Swimmers at Ke Iki Beach

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) has been diligently searching for two swimmers reported missing since Saturday at Ke Iki Beach in Pūpūkea. After receiving a 911 call in the late morning, the first responders commenced an immediate shoreline search under challenging high surf conditions. The efforts, covering approximately 2.5 miles offshore, included seven HFD units staffed with 21 personnel, as reported by the Honolulu Fire Department. Despite comprehensive search strategies by air and sea, operations had to be suspended at 6:30 p.m. due to the onset of darkness.

Resuming with the sunrise on Sunday, the search operation scaled slightly, deploying six units and 17 HFD personnel, along with Honolulu Ocean Safety and the U.S. Coast Guard. Working relentlessly, they stretched their coordinated land, air, and sea search until darkness forced another suspension at 6:30 p.m. While they retrieved no signs of the missing individuals, the search team was determined, operating until the last light permitted, as per the Honolulu Fire Department’s update.

Continuing this pattern of perseverance, the HFD and assisting agencies took to the search again at first light on Monday. With the elements clawing against their resolve, and sunlight waning, teams concluded day three of the search at sunset, halting operations to await the morning’s grace. Information from the Honolulu Fire Department’s update clarifies that the search will pick up again at first light with all entities unified in their mission…
