Ala Moana loses a piece of local history as Sera’s Surf and Shore closes after 57 years

HONOLULU (Island News) — Sera’s Surf and Shore is closing after being a local staple in Ala Moana Center for the past 57 years.

The surf and skate apparel store’s last day open at the shopping center is Feb. 27. Shop owner Chris Higa said it was ultimately about Ala Moana raising their rent and how the shopping center handled their location, creating a sense of unwelcomeness.

Sera’s has operated as a business since 1951, but has been in Ala Moana since 1967. They originally opened when the Sears wing was introduced that year where they remained as a tenant until around 1990…
