HONOLULU, HI — Beginning March 1, Hawaii is rolling out a pilot program for a digital version of its Department of Agriculture declaration form, replacing the long-used paper system. The form, required for all inbound air travelers, gathers details such as arrival date and whether passengers are bringing animals or plants that could threaten Hawaii’s environment, agriculture, or communities.
According to the department, providing false information or failing to declare restricted items could result in misdemeanor charges, with penalties of up to $25,000 in fines and one year of imprisonment. More severe violations, such as smuggling snakes, could lead to felony charges, a $200,000 fine, and up to five years in prison.
