Three hikers found themselves in a precarious position this past Monday when they became disoriented on the Pu’u Manamana Trail in Ka’a’awa. The Honolulu Fire Department was alerted to the situation after a 911 call came in at 12:07 p.m. The first of five HFD units arrived on the scene within minutes, by 12:13 p.m., and rapidly set up for air rescue operations.
The lost hikers, struggling to find their way back to the trail, were perched near the top and in need of assistance. According to the official release from the Honolulu Fire Department, Air 1 inserted HFD personnel at the hikers’ location by 12:48 p.m. and conducted a medical assessment. Fortunately, none of the hikers were injured, and the rescue team was able to airlift them to safety, one after another,
The hikers were safely rescued and landed without incident. Despite the scare, all three declined medical care. HFD’s quick response and successful air rescue highlighted their readiness for wilderness emergencies…
