With measles outbreaks taking hold on the mainland, Hawai’i officials urge

HONOLULU (Island News) — The number of measles cases is spiking across the continental U.S., with more than 600 infections in 22 states. While there are no reported cases in Hawai’i, health officials are urging the public to do its part in the fight against the illness.

According to the Hawai’i Department of Health (DOH), 95% of a population must be vaccinated to stop a measles outbreak.

Right now, 90% of Hawai’i residents got the shot.
