Honolulu ambulance out of service following head-on collision

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Honolulu Emergency Medical Services ambulance was involved in a head-on collision on the morning of May 12, causing the vehicle to be taken out of commission.

The ambulance was en route to an emergency call, with lights and sirens on, when the vehicle was struck head-on by a sedan on Waialua Beach Road.

According to officials, the 83-year-old sedan driver illegally crossed a double yellow line which led to the collision. The sedan driver was treated at the scene and declined hospital transport.

A paramedic, 50, sustained minor injuries but declined transport.

As a result of the collision, a second ambulance was dispatched to the original emergency call.
