Farrington High School students complete Blood Bank of Hawaii’s first phlebotomy program

KALIHI, Hawaii (Island News) — Blood Bank of Hawaii (BBH) and Farrington High School celebrated 14 seniors who graduated from the school’s first-ever phlebotomy training program.

This spring, BBH began its pilot program which the first class celebrated completing on Tuesday night, May 20. The phlebotomy training program is the first of its kind in the nation, where students are hired and paid as trainee employees during their senior year.

These young professionals got the opportunity to get hands-on training in a way that’s modeled after a physician residency program. These Farrington seniors were able to get phlebotomy training earlier than they would with a post-high school program. The program also widens their options by providing a career pathway for students who may not want to go to college immediately or at all…
