Honolulu Braces for Mixed Weather with Enhanced Showers and Promising Sun for Holiday Weekend

The National Weather Service says an upper-level low causing increased showers in Honolulu today and tonight, with sunnier conditions expected for the holiday weekend. A high-pressure system is maintaining breezy trade winds through Sunday. The upper-level low may cause isolated thunderstorms, especially near Kauai in the morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Surfers can expect consistent east shore waves from tradewinds and increased south-facing shore swell through the weekend. The National Weather Service reports “moderate to locally strong trade winds through the weekend” caused by a distant high pressure system. Trade winds are forecast to weaken after Memorial Day. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for “Maalaea Bay-Pailolo Channel-Alenuihaha Channel-Big Island Leeward Waters-Big Island Southeast Waters,” where winds create choppy conditions for smaller vessels.
