Quick Action by Honolulu Fire Department Averts Disaster at Pawaa Condo Building

Last week, a potentially catastrophic fire was swiftly controlled and extinguished by the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) at a condominium in Pawaa, showcasing the department’s effective response in times of emergency. Last Wednesday evening, a 911 call reported a fire at the Kalakaua Homes, a residential building located at 1545 Kalakaua Avenue. HFD personnel were dispatched, responding with 10 units that included 39 firefighters, as reported in an official statement on the HFD’s website.

The first responders arrived on scene just three minutes after the call, at 8:51 p.m., to find flames actively burning on the 9th floor. Despite the potential for the fire to quickly get out of control, HFD teams managed to establish a water supply and begin to aggressively attack the fire. Their efforts were not solely to extinguish the blaze; they also assisted “Two residents on the 9th floor” who were in immediate danger, relocating them “to a safe area,” according to HFD’s statement. These residents were swiftly transferred into the care of Emergency Medical Services by 9:12 p.m., signaling the department’s dual function as both fire suppressors and first responders in medical exigencies…
