Mayor’s role in police chief resignation raises questions

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Experts on police governance are questioning whether Mayor Rick Blangiardi exceeded his authority by forcing out Police Chief Arthur “Joe” Logan and recommending his interim replacement.

Under the City Charter, the Honolulu Police Commission (HPC) has the sole authority to hire and fire police chiefs, and that’s specifically to keep politics from influencing the decisions of the people who enforce the law.
