KANEOHE, Hawaii (Island News)-“Not in my backyard.” That’s what a group of Kaneohe residents is saying after a “substance abuse recovery home” went up in their neighborhood. It’s an issue the neighborhood board is now looking into.
The house on Cobb Adams Road in Kaneohe is a clean and sober residential house for women going through Hina Mauka’s drug addiction program. The nonprofit bought the home last year.
“These are not high-risk individuals. These are women who have successfully completed treatment through a work furlough program and are taking the final steps toward full independence, says Ryan Baker, Hina Mauka’s incoming president.
Hina Mauka says it needs to obtain its permits from the City and County Department of Planning and Permitting. Until then, it hired another clean and sober nonprofit, Makana O Ke Akua or MOKA, to run the program…
