HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaii Police Department reportedly made six fentanyl-related arrests across Hawaii Island in May and seized nearly 3 grams of the powerful synthetic opioid.

According to HPD’s latest monthly report, officers recovered a total of 2.94 grams of illicit fentanyl last month. While no fentanyl pills were confiscated, officials warn the powder alone is extremely dangerous. Just 2 milligrams can be fatal, per the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
That means the amount seized in May was enough to potentially kill 1,470 people, HPD said.
