After 50 years, a telescope at the top of Mauna Kea will be removed

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – A telescope that’s been on top of Mauna Kea for nearly 50 years will be removed.

The University of Hawaii announced Friday that the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope, also known as the UKIRT observatory, will be decommissioned.
