WAIPAHU, Hawaii (Island News) — Firefighters extinguished three house fires in Waipahu on Wednesday that were intentionally set by flammable liquids.
The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a 911 call they received at 4:21 p.m. on July 30 for a building fire on Kaniau Place. On the way to the scene, the fire captain upgraded the incident to a second-alarm emergency after seeing the amount of smoke rising into the air before arriving. More units were dispatched to the fire.
Once firefighters arrived at 4:30 p.m., they found three abandoned, small residential structures fully involved with smoke and flames. An aggressive fire attack was initiated and the fire was brought under control at 4:51 p.m. After searching the three buildings, no individuals remained inside.
Firefighters searched the area to determine if there were any hidden fires in void spaces of the buildings to prevent the flames from spreading to other areas of the structure. By 6:18 p.m., the fire was fully extinguished…
