HONOLULU (KHON2) — Juan Baron was sentenced to life behind bars on Wednesday, July 30, for the murder of 73-year-old Gary Ruby in 2022 at Ruby’s Hawaii Loa Ridge home.
In March 2024, Baron pleaded guilty to the murder under an agreement with prosecutors, admitting he suffocated Ruby with a belt after Ruby choked on food and then encased his body in concrete inside his bathtub. A layer of coffee was added to the bathtub to mask the smell.

Nearly seven months later, Baron attempted to withdraw his guilty plea due to his feeling intimidated because “his attorneys said he would die in prison.”
