HONOLULU (KHON2) — Unwanted guns were accepted at Waiʻanae police station from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 15.
Exchange guns for gift cards at Wahiawa buyback event
“I’ve had it around the house for a long time and never used it and when they said I could get $100 gift card for it, I thought, yeah, that’s the best deal I’m ever going to find,” said Jim Claffey, a gun buy-back participant.
The event was part of the Honolulu Police Department’s partnership with the Department of Law Enforcement to make neighborhoods safer.
“So far, we got about 50 plus guns today. I think that’s pretty successful because any gun off the street is going to make our community safer,” said Major Gail Beckley. “We want to make the west side, especially the west side, feel a little more safer about what’s going on. This is just one way of doing it.”
